Department of General Diagnostics

The Department of General Diagnostics is an important unit of the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In order to help the specialists of the hospital treat patients as quickly and efficiently as possible, we perform the testing of the patients’ biological fluids and biopsy, as well as other diagnostic techniques.

Our Department is equipped with up-to-date medical facilities for diagnostic testing: we use the machinery for automatic dehydration, freezing, and cutting of tissues, the cutting machines for paraffin materials, and the most sensitive biological microscopes. Today, the Department of General Diagnostics includes 7 specialists: three of them have technical education, two are morbid anatomists and one is PhD in Medicine.

A noteworthy detail is that the Department plays an important role in the hospital’s academic research work and represents an independent expert opinion in a number of national and municipal projects.

Types of tests

In order to make a precise diagnosis of a patient’s condition, the specialists of our Department use the following methods:

Instrumental Examination. This diagnostic technique includes a number of procedures, among which:

  • histologic examination;
  • immunohistological analysis;
  • molecular characterization;
  • diagnostics of soft tissue tumors;
  • diagnostics of benign and malignant tumors in the prostate gland;
  • diagnostics of benign and malignant skin tumors;
  • diagnostics of benign and malignant mammary neoplasms.
Laboratory Tests. This group of diagnostic maneuvers comprises the examination of biological fluids (blood, urine, fecal masses, saliva, sweat, seminal fluid, gastric juice, synovial fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, etc.) and biopsy (gastrobiopsy, liver, bone marrow, and kidney punch biopsy).
