Established in 1954, the First Teaching Hospital of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is biggest and the most respected health care and research facility in China. It was founded together with the medical institute, which has just been opened in Tianjin, and became the training facility for medical students. The hospital was established for the purpose of satisfaction of the country’s needs in health professionals. Besides, the specialists of the University were to maintain, accumulate and systematize the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Development of the Hospital
Up to the middle of the previous century, there were no big medical institutions in China.
It was Ha Litian who decided to unite Tianjin doctors and create a corporate medical school. He invited the specialists from all over the country, so that they could teach his colleagues the basics of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Soon, the hospital became one of the biggest and the most influential in China.
Over the more than 60-year history, the hospital came through a number of changes:
- In 2007, the students of Tianjin Medical University undergoing training at the State scientific and research hospital at the University of Traditional Chinese won the competition for creation of acupuncture appliances.
- Since 2009, the specialists of the university use their free time for conducting the training programs on medicinal herbs growing in different parts of the world.
- In 2010, specialists worked out and enacted the plan of the hospital’s modernization.
